Pre-departure checklist

Before you leave home there are some important things you will need to do. We’ve prepared this checklist to help you make sure you don’t overlook anything.

  • Visa: You must obtain your visa before entering Thailand (Non-ED visa). You must not enter Thailand with visa ‘on-arrival’. If you are entering with a tourist visa, please inform RIC’s visa officer, Mr. Chaiwut Kongpoon ([email protected]) prior traveling.

    Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for the intended length of your study period in Thailand.

    Medical care: Have medical, optical and dental check-ups and organise any prescribed medication you may require including a letter from your doctor (in English) detailing any prescribed medicines.

    Airport pickup: Find out about our free on-arrival airport pickup here and complete the online booking form to be greeted at the airport.

    Accommodation: Book temporary accommodation before you leave your home country. You may find accommodations here. You should book for a minimum term or as short as possible in case  you may want to change your mind later. Please note, those accommodations are not belonged to RSU, they are independent providers. The agreement will be established between you and the landlord directly. Please read the contract carefully.

    Money & Banking: To live comfortably in Thailand, you need to allow at least 15,000 Baht per month for costs of living and accommodation expenses. 

  • Bring Bank ’s statement to show to the Thai immigration if got requested

  • Bring some cash for first few weeks expenses (around USD 1,000)  and accommodation deposit.

  • Obtain a debit/credit card from your bank and ask your bank whether you can withdraw cash in Thailand through the cards.

    Documentation: Pack a document folder containing your

  1. Letter of Acceptance
  2. Banking Transfer Slip
  3. Academic transcripts from previous study
  4. Identification documents
  5. Important contact numbers
  6. Contract of accommodation
  7. Details of pre-arranged accommodation
  8. Medical records

Insurance: You must obtain a travel insurance before departure. This is to cover and provide protection while you are traveling to Thailand until registration process at RSU.  Once you have registered at RSU, you will be covered by a  student insurance. You are recommended to have extra insurance from your home country if you see necessary. 

Electricity and Electronic Device:

  • Voltage  220 Volt

  • Universal electric socket

  • Customs and quarantine: Check customs and quarantine regulations and pack any items you wish to declare separately. Thailand is quite flexible in terms of custom checking however please check with your airlines of what are prohibited to carry on board and bring to Thailand.

    Airport Pick-up Service: If you reserve the airport pickup service with RIC, you must confirm your booking before departure to Miss. Kittiphong ( [email protected])

  • If you are traveling with your friends or family, please inform Miss. Kittiphong. Additional charges maybe applied to any additional accompanied person.

  • Without cancellation notice, If you don’t show up at the airport, you will be fined up to 3,000 baht for not providing notification.

  • Please refer to the rules/regulations of airport pick-up before your departure.

  • Orientation Date:   It is necessary to arrive RSU before the orientation date. Please check the academic calendar for the orientation day here
